乡村建设乡村建设中国现代史上主张以乡村教育、改造、建设来解决中国的出路和前途问题的改良主义理论。奉行乡村建设理论的人物被称之为乡村建设派，是当时较有影响的一个政治派别。由此而兴起的社会运动称为乡村教育运动或乡村建设运动。流行于20世纪20～30年代，代表人物有梁漱溟、晏阳初等。乡村建设的历史，可追溯到1904年米迪刚在河北定县（今定州市）翟城创办的“村治”。辛亥革命后，山西省军阀再倡村治。代，余庆棠、陶行知、黄炎培等提倡办学，南北各省闻风而动，纷纷从事乡村教育、乡村改造、乡村建设，以图实现改造中国的目的。代末30年代初，中国的乡村建设运动进入了高潮。其中以梁漱溟领导的山东邹平和晏阳初领导的河北定县元两个试验区影响最大。1937年7月抗日战争全面爆发后，全国的乡村建设运动被迫中止，只有晏阳初坚持不懈，由国内转到国外继续进行试验。1926年，中华教育改进社主任干事陶行知主张以乡村学校作为改造乡村生活的中心，强调要教育农民具备征服自然、改造社会的本领，能自立、自治、自卫等，并筹办晓庄学校，于翌年春开学，成为乡村教育运动的重要阵地。1930年以前，梁漱溟提出村治的沟想，他的村治与翟城的村治有所不同，已不再是建设模范村的慈善事业和侧重于保甲制度的乡村治安，而是作为复兴中国的起点的基础来加以提倡的。1930年以后，他在广泛调查和试验的基础上，将村治设想发展为乡村建设理论，认为中国的出路问题，归根结底是中国文化的出路问题，复兴中国的唯一出路，是复活中国传统文化，而中国传统文化（主要是孔子文化）又铸造了中国的社会组织，形成了“伦理本位”和“职业分途”的特殊社会结构，他认为中国现实问题的解决，只能走农业立国、乡村建设的道路，其他如俄国共产党的革命道路，欧洲近代民主政治的道路，以至于中国共产党领导的革命武装斗争的道路，在中国都是走不通的。他认为这是中国民族自救运动的“最后觉悟”。他提出的乡村建设方案是：从乡村教育、农业改良、行政改革做起，由乡村影响城市，以农业促进工业，逐步建设一个因袭“伦理本位”和“职业分途”传统的新国家。他自1929年起在河南辉县开办村治学院，1931年在山东邹平、菏泽等地创办山东乡村建设研究院和实验区，政、教、富、卫合一，实验行政机关教育机关化，由乡村学校统一政治、经济和武装事业，提倡组织各种合作社，并从事农作物优良品种的推广。晏阳初认为中国的问题，就是人的问题。只有打好人的基础，才能使中国的问题得到根本解决。要建立人的基础，必须明白中国人的毛病：愚，最大多数人目不识丁，缺乏知识；穷，在生和死的夹缝里挣扎着；弱，病夫，又没有科学治疗，不讲公共卫生；私，缺乏道德陶冶和公民训练。要克服这些缺点，只有在教育方面下功夫。中国人的最大多数生活在农村，所以要在农村开展平民教育。将平民教育和乡村建设结合起来，就有希望改造中国。针对中国农民的四大病症，他主张采用学校式、社会式、家庭式三大方式，开展文艺、生计、卫生、公民四大教育，培养知识力、生产力、强健力、团结力，以实现国家的新生和“民族的再造”。他19在北京建立中华平民教育促进会，1926年选定河北定县为实验区。经过4年准备，1930年正式进入实验期，大力推行上述文艺、生计、卫生、公民教育。梁漱溟的乡村建设理论带有复古和封建宗法色彩，而晏阳初的理论则显露了西化和近代化的倾向。他们企图以社会改良来代替社会革命，用枝节问题的解决来取代反帝反封建的斗争，这就从根本上离开了中国的国情，脱离了民主革命的目标，因而成效甚微。
