So, English has a lot of expressions, a lot of phrasal verbs, different things that we use in our daily speech, which can make it very very complicated for non-natives and people trying to master the language. Today, I am going to be covering one of the most common phrasal verb kind of expressions that we use in our daily life as natives.
英语有很多表达,很多短语动词,我们在日常生活中也使用不同的短语,这让非母语人士和想要掌握这门语言的人感到非常复杂。今天,我要讲的是一个在日常生活中最常见的动词短语。
This will help you with sounding more confident and also more like a native when you speak and most importantly it will help you with understanding us we"re very complicated people. Hello, everybody. It"s me Elliott from ETJ English and we are talking about the word "pop".
这将帮助你听起来更自信,而且说话的时候更像一个本地人,最重要的是,这将帮助你理解我们,我们是非常复杂的人。大家好,我是来自 ETJ English 频道的埃利奥特,今天我们要学习的是单词 pop。
And this word "pop" is used a lot by British people. I"m going to talk about a few sentences, phrasal verbs today to explain the use of "pop" and hopefully help you with sounding better.
英国人经常用 pop 这个词。今天我要讲几个句子和短语动词来解释 pop 的用法,希望能帮助你听起来更地道。
Remember, I"ll also be covering some pronunciation today because that is my job. I am a full time accent coach, pronunciation teacher.
记住,我今天也会讲一些发音,因为那是我的工作。我是一个全职的口音老师,发音老师。
So, if you do want to learn directly with me, you can join my course with the link in the description below or go to etjenglish. com where you can become my student and learn how to improve your accent and sound more British. "Pop" resembles quickness, something happening fast.
所以,如果你想直接和我一起学习,你可以通过下面描述中的链接加入我的课程,或者去 etjenglish.com,在那里你可以成为我的学生,学习如何改善你的口音,听起来更英式。Pop 类似于快速,一些发生得很快的事情。
So, if I told you "I"m just going to pop out", it would generally mean that I"m going to go out, leave the building, leave the room, go outside, but very quickly very briefly maybe I need to make a call but I won"t be long.
Before we go any further though and talk about other ways of using "pop", I"m just going to give you a quick pronunciation lesson on the // sound because most of the time when my students join my course, they pronounce this // sound in words like "hot", "knots", "pots" with more of an American pronunciation.
如果我告诉你 I"m just going to pop out,通常意味着我要出去,离开大楼,离开房间,到外面去,但很快,很短暂,也许我需要打个电话,但我不会太久。在我们进一步讨论 pop 的其他用法之前,我将给你上一堂关于//音的快速发音课,因为大多数时候,当我的学生加入我的课程时,他们把 hot、knots、pots 等词中的//音发得更像是美国口音。
We do pronounce this // sound quite often when we speak English and if you do it with the British form of the vowel, you"ll instantly sound more British because it sounds so different to the American form. So, the // sounds.
这个//音在我们讲英语的时候确实很常见,如果你要用英式的元音来发,你听起来会更英伦,因为它听起来和美式发音有很大区别。我们来说说这个//音。
The first thing to understand is that we need to pull the tongue back slightly. We keep it quite low in the mouth but we need to pull it back towards our throats.
首先要明白的是,我们需要稍微把舌头向后拉。我们要把舌头放在嘴巴的低处,而且还有将它往喉咙方向缩。
But the most important part I would say is the fact that we need to round our mouth. So, create a circular shape, not too circular. Look at me. //, //.
但我想说的最重要的一点是,我们需要撅起嘴巴。嘴呈圆形,但不要太圆。看着我,//,//。
So, I"m making a round shape and my tongue is pulled back towards the back of my mouth and I"m just quickly pushing the sound out, it"s a short vowel, so it should never be //, it should be //. Let"s try it in some words firstly at the beginning of a word, "on", //, //, /n/.
我把舌头拉到嘴的后部,然后快速地把这个音发出来,这是一个短元音,所以它永远不应该是//,而应该是//。我们试一下读以这个音开头的单词,on,//,//,/n/。
So, to create that N, you just need to push your tongue from where it was for the // sound, push your tongue up to the top of your mouth, /n/, /n/, /n/ okay? Now, let"s try /f/, /f/, /f/.
要发 n 这个音,你只需要把你的舌头从//这个音的位置推到你的舌尖,/ n /, /n /, /n/,明白吗?现在我们来试试/f/,/f/,/f/。
So, after the // sound, put your top teeth onto your bottom lip, /f/, /f/. Now, let"s try it with the word that we"re practicing today — pop.
在//音后,把你的上牙放在你的下嘴唇上,/f/, /f/。现在,让我们试着练习我们今天要学的词——pop。
So, /p/, /p/, /p/, /p/, /p/, /p/, /p/, /pp/, /pp/. Can you pronounce it?
那么,/p/,/p/,/p/,/p/,/p/,/p/,/pp/,/pp/。你能发音吗?
If you can, very good job. Let"s start learning about the expressions.
如果可以,那就非常好。我们开始学习短语吧。
Firstly, what I mentioned earlier — I"m just going to pop out for a second. Very common expression here.
首先是我刚刚提到的——I"m just going to pop out for a second(我要出去一下。).很常见的短语。
We usually say "for a second" as well to show that we won"t be long. So: I"m just going to pop out for a second, can you hold my drink?
我们也通常说 for a second 来表示我们不会很久。例如:我要出去一下,你能拿着我的饮料吗?
And to "pop out" means to go outside. Now, here we"re actually connecting our speech, we"re connecting "pop" to "out", /p"pat/, /p"pat/.
Pop out 的意思是外出。这里其实我们有连读,我们把 pop 跟 out 连读在一起,/p"pat/,/p"pat/。
The reason why is because "pop" finishes with a P which is a consonant sound. Now, remember, when words finish with a consonant sound and the next word begins with a vowel sound, we will join those together, /p"pat/.
原因是因为 pop 以 P 结尾,这是一个辅音。记住,当单词以辅音结尾,而下一个词以元音发音开头,我们就会把它们连读,/p"pat/。
So, "I"m just going to pop out for a second", meaning "I"m going to very briefly leave the room, go outside." Maybe if you want to be more specific, you could say, "I"m just going to pop to the shops" or "I"m just popping to the shops."
I"m just going to pop out for a second,意思是“我要短暂离开房间,出去一下”。也许你想想更具体一点,你可以说 I"m just going to pop to the shops(我去一下商店)或者 I"m just popping to the shops。
So, again, that just means I am going to this location but quickly, briefly, it"s something I"m not going to do for a very long time. Because remember, "pop" is something that happens fast and that"s what"s happening here.
意思是我要去这个地方,但很快,我不会去很久。记住,pop 表示某事发生得很快。
So: I"m just popping to the shops for a sec. If you need the toilet, this is a very good expression.
例如:I"m just popping to the shops for a sec(我去一下商店。).如果你想去洗手间,这是一个很好的表达。
When you"re at the dinner table or something or your round a friend"s house, you could just say to them "I"m just gonna pop to the loo", "I"m just gonna pop to the loo", "pop to the loo". Now, we"re not connecting our speech with this one because "to" begins with a consonant, so we can"t connect our speech here.
当你在餐桌上或在朋友家吃饭时,你可以对他们说 I"m just gonna pop to the loo(我要去洗手间),I"m just gonna pop to the loo,pop to the loo。这里我们没有连读,因为 to 以辅音开头,因此我们不能连读。
"Pop to the loo", so "loo" means toilet. We often use this in British English to say we"re going to the toilet but we will pronounce "to" as /t/.
Pop to the loo,loo 是洗手间的意思。在英式英语中,我们经常用这个来表示我们要去厕所,但是我们会把“to”读成/t/。
The reason why is because we can say it fast, it"s not really very important, the word "to" in this sentence. So, we"ll use the schwa sound, //, /t/: I"m just going to pop to the loo.
原因是因为我们可以说得很快,而且这个句子中的 to 并不重要。所以我们会用一个弱央元音//,/t/: I"m just going to pop to the loo.
Let"s say I"m on the phone to one of my friends and he or she has nothing on tonight, no plans, I could say, "Oh, okay. Can I pop round later?" "Can I pop round later", "pop round" means to go to that place where that person is usually where they live, so their home.
假设我在给我的一个朋友打电话,他或她今晚没什么事,没有计划,我可以说,Oh, okay. Can I pop round later?(哦,好吧。我可以晚点再来吗?)Can I pop round later,pop round 的意思是去对方常住的地方,也就是他们的家。
So: Can I pop round later? Or I might say, "I"m just going to pop round tonight just to say hi" meaning I"m going to go to your place.
例如:Can I pop round later?或者我可能会说,I"m just going to pop round tonight just to say hi(我今晚要过来打个招呼),意思是我要去你家。
One more thing, we can use it to turn a machine on. For example, the television. "Can you pop the telly on?"
还有一个用法,我们可以用它来表示打开机器。例如,电视:Can you pop the telly on?(你可以把电视打开吗?)
Sometimes, we call television "telly", "telly". This is a very common British way of saying television.
有时候我们把电视称作 telly,telly。这是英国人表示电视的一种常见说法。
I might say to my partner, "What"s on the telly tonight?", meaning what television shows are on the television tonight. "Telly", okay, "telly", very common here.
我可能会对我的搭档说,What"s on the telly tonight?,意思是今晚电视上有什么节目。Telly,telly,在这里很常见。
So, if I told someone, "Could you just pop the telly on?" that simply means can you switch, use the switch, press the button to make the TV turn on. "Can you pop the telly on?"
如果我跟某人说 Could you just pop the telly on?,意思就是你能把不能按一下电视把它打开。Can you pop the telly on?
Again, that means to do it quickly, just kind of more casual expression. So, let"s try one long sentence with two phrasal verbs in it: I"m going to pop to the shop.
同样,这意味着要快速地做,只是一种更随意的表达。让我们试一个长句子,里面有两个短语动词: I"m going to pop to the shop.
Again, we have the // sound, "shop", "shop". "Later", don"t forget the schwa sound in "later".
这里也有//音,shop,shop。Later,别忘了 later 里面的弱央元音。
The same as what we"re doing in "to", /t/, okay? "I"m going to/t/ pop to/t/ the shop later/let/."
还有 to 里面也有。
So, with lots of /t/ sounds happening here. To "pick up" meaning to collect.
这里有很多/t/音。Pick up 的意思是收集。
"To take some milk", which is very very impossible to do at the moment because everybody is taking everything from the supermarkets due to the virus, everybody"s panicking in the UK. If you go into a supermarket now, all the shelves are completely empty.
To take some milk(去买一些牛奶),这是非常非常不可能的,因为由于病毒,每个人都从超市买走所有的东西,在英国每个人都在恐慌。如果你现在走进超市,所有的货架都是空的。
So, if you don"t have any toilet paper at the moment in your house, good luck because you"re probably going to have to use some cabbage or something to wipe your bottom now. So, there we go. Let"s try this sentence one more time: I"m going to pop to the shop later to pick up some milk.
所以,如果你现在家里没有卫生纸,那就祝你好运吧,因为你现在可能得用卷心菜之类的东西擦屁股了。好,就到这里了。我们再来试着读一下这个句子:I"m going to pop to the shop later to pick up some milk.
Okay. So, the main things to remember of what we"ve taught today is weak forms "to", very often being pronounced as /t/, "to pop to the shop", okay? The other thing to remember is, of course, the pronunciation of the // sound, "shop", "pop".
好。我们今天要记住的主要内容是 to 经常被弱读成/t/,to pop to the shop。当然,另一件要记住的事情是//的发音,shop,pop。
And the other thing to remember is that the word "pop" is used in many different ways. It can be used to mean turn a machine on; it can mean we"re going somewhere or we"re coming somewhere.
另外要记住的是 pop 这个词有很多不同的用法。它可以用来表示打开机器;它可以表示我们要去某个地方,也可以表示我们要来某个地方。
It has a variety of uses, feel free to use it because as I said, it"s very very common in British English. Now again, if you need help with your pronunciation, don"t forget to join my course, become my student, I"d love to help you.
它有多种用法,可以随意使用,因为正如我所说,它在英式英语中非常常见。再次提醒,如果你在发音方面需要帮助,别忘了加入我的课程,成为我的学生,我很乐意帮助你。
