John的考察即将结束，明天就要回国了。今天下午晚些时候他想体验一下购物，给家人和朋友买点礼物。他要去哪儿才能买到喜欢的礼物呢？请听听他和何娜娜是怎么说的。

John: Wow, this shopping mall is as large as those in New York. There are all sorts of goods.
哇，这个商场和纽约的一样大。商品琳琅满目。
Nana: Yes. They sell a wide variety of goods both from home and abroad to meet consumers" demands.
没错。他们出售来自中国和外国的各种商品，以满足消费者的需要。
John: China is the biggest consumer market in the world, if I may say so.
我是否可以说，中国是世界上最大的消费市场。
Nana: Yes, there"s no doubt about it. Here is a big store selling local specialties.
当然，毫无疑问。这儿是一家大型特产店。
John: Amazing! It has a vast array of things made of coconuts.
太好了！这儿有各种各样的椰子制品。
Salesgirl: Hello. May I help you?
你好，先生。我可以帮你吗?
John: Yes, thanks. What"s this?

Salesgirl: It"s the brocade of the Li people.
这是黎锦。
John: Is it woven by hand or by machine?
是手工织的，还是机器织的?
Salesgirl: By hand. It"s made by Li"s traditional technology of weaving, dyeing, spinning, and embroidering. So its craftsmanship is exquisite.
手工织的。它是通过黎族传统的纺、染、织、绣技艺制作而成的，因此做工精致。
John: The color is very beautiful. Is the dye natural or chemical?
颜色很漂亮。染料是天然的，还是化学的?
Salesgirl: It"s natural. It"s extracted from native plants.

John: Good. I"m keen on the patterns too.
好。我也喜欢这些花纹图案。
Salesgirl: The patterns are unique, aren"t they? They are one of the symbols of the Li people.

John: Does it mean they tell stories about the Li people?
它们是不是讲述着黎族人民的故事？
Salesgirl: Yes, you"re right. We have numerous types of products for you to choose them. Prices are reasonable.

John: All right. I"ll take two scarves of Li brocade, three coconut carvings, and four boxes of coconut candies. How much are they altogether?
就在这儿买吧。两条黎锦围巾，三个椰雕，四盒椰子糖。一共多少钱?
Salesgirl: That"s 1800 yuan in all.
一共1800元。
John: Can I pay by credit card?
能用信用卡吗？
Salesgirl: Certainly. Do you want to get the things packed up?
当然可以。要装箱打包吗?
John: Sure. That"s very kind of you.

Salesgirl: You"re welcome. Have a nice day, sir.

John: Have a nice day. Excuse me, where is the restroom?

14.This shopping mall is as large as those in NewYorK.
这个商场和纽约的一样大。
英语中用as...as...作比较，意为“和/与/跟……一样”， those指代前面的shopping mall。请看下面的句子：
(1)This garden is as beautiful as those in Oxford.
这座花园和牛津的那些花园一样美。
(2)This beach is as long as that in Hawaii.
这个海滩与夏威夷的海滩一样长。
(3)This restaurant is as busy as that one.
这家餐馆的生意跟那家餐馆的一样忙。
15.There are all sorts of goods.
商品琳琅满目。
英语中表示“各种各样的；种类繁多的”的常用词组有：all kinds of、all sorts of、all types of 和 a wide variety of。如：all kinds of flowers(各种各样的花)、all sorts of jobs(各种各样的工作)、all types of books(各种各样的书)、a wide variety of reasons(种种原因)。
16.They sell a wide variety of goods both from home and abroad to meet the consumers’ demands.
他们出售来自中国和外国的各种商品，以满足消费者的需要。
句中有三个用法搭配，一是 both...and...，二是 from home and abroad，三是 meet sb"s demands。
第一个搭配 both...and...的意思相当于 not only...but also...，意为“不仅……而且……；……和……都”。如：
Both Haikou and Sanya are charming.
海口和三亚两个城市都有魅力。
For this job you"ll need a good knowledge of both economics and finance.
这项工作需要你精通经济学和金融学。
第二个搭配 from home and abroad 意为“来自国内外”。如：
Five doctors from home and abroad constituted the medical team.
来自国内外的五名医生组成了这个医疗队。
The textbooks are used in the School of Economics are from home and abroad.
经济学院使用的教材来自国内外。
第三个搭配 meet sb"s demands 是动词词组，意为“满足某人的要求”。如：
The school tries hard to improve its teaching quality to meet students’ demands.
为满足学生的需要，学校努力提高教学质量。
17.If I may say so.
我是否可以说。
此句较正式，表示礼貌性地评价或提问。如：
You look pretty, if I may say so.
我觉得你看上去很漂亮。
Are you married, if I may ask.
我可否问一下你结婚了吗?
18.There"s no doubt about it.
毫无疑问。
口语中也可用省略句 “No doubt (about it).”，表示”无疑，很可能；确实地”。如：
(1)He"s made some great movies. There"s no doubt about it.
他拍了一些非常出色的影片。这一点毫无疑问。
(2)A: Can she pass the test?
她能通过考试吗?
B: No doubt about it.
一定会的。
19.It has a vast array of things made of coconuts.
这儿有种类多样的椰子制品。
词组 a vast array of sth 意为“大堆；大量；大群”。如：
The shop has an array of brands of wine.
这家商店有各种品牌的葡萄酒。
The college has an array of talented people.
这所学院有许多人才。
句中的 made of coconuts 是用过去分词短语做定语，修饰 things。词组 be made of/from，表示东西用什么材料做成。请比较下面的句子：
(1)This kind of furniture is made of wood.
这种家具是用木材做的。
(2)The wine is made from grapes.
这种酒是用葡萄酿的。
20.Is it woven by hand or by machine?
(黎锦)是手工织的，还是机器织的?
此句有三个语言点，一是一般现在时的被动语态，二是选择疑问句，三是“by+名词”结构。
动词 weave 的过去式和过去分词分别是 wove 和 woven。
代词 it 代替 brocade，这句话可以说成“Is the brocade woven by hand or by machine?”选择疑问句由 or 连接，表示是A还是B，回答时根据情况选择其中一个。请看下面的对话：
(1)A: Is the dye natural or chemical?
染料是天然的还是化学的?
B: It"s natural.
染料是天然的。
(2)A: Would you like chicken or beef?
你想吃鸡肉还是牛肉?
B: Beef, please. 吃牛肉。
介词 by 表示方式。如：
The house is heated by gas.
这房子是由煤气供暖的。
Can I pay by credit card?
我能用信用卡支付吗?
I"ll contact you by We Chat.
我用微信和你联系。
还有 by plane/by boat/by car/by taxi/by bus/by air/by land/by sea 等。
21.It"s extracted from native plants.
它(染料)是从本地植物中提取的。
此句也是一般现在时的被动语态。句中词组 extract sth from sth 意为“从某物中提取、提炼某物”。如：
The oil is extracted from coconuts.
这种油是从椰子中提炼的。
22.I"m keen on the patterns too.
我也喜欢这些花纹图案。
词组 be keen on sb sth/doing sth，在英语口语中经常用到，表示“对某人或某物喜爱、有兴趣、着迷”。如：
Ben is keen on Hainan.
Ben迷上了海南。
Many tourists are keen on the dishes here.
许多游客喜爱这里的菜肴。
23.How much are they altogether?
一共多少钱？
用英语询问价格，如果购买的东西是单数， 用“How much is it/How much does it cost?”；如果购买的东西是复数，用“How much are they/How much do they cost?”。有时用模糊形式，不管是单数还是复数， 都用“How much is it?”。
altogether 和 in all 表示“总共”的意思。如：
That"s 800 yuan in all/altogether.
一共800元。
24.Have a nice day, sir.
再见，先生。
英语国家的人告别时除了说“Goodbye.”“Bye-bye.”“Bye.”See you later.”等之外，“Have a nice day.”也是常挂在嘴上的告别语。回答时照说“Have a nice day.”。也可以不回答， 微笑或挥一下手即可。
25.Where is the restroom?
洗手间在哪儿？
询问洗手间在哪里，就可以用这个问句。用委婉语询问洗手间在哪里还可以说“Where can I wash my hands?”。英语中用于洗手间的词有men"s room、women"s room、gentlemen"s room、ladies’ room、toilet、bathroom、wash-room、lavatory、WC(water closet) 等。restroom 是卫生间，不是休息室。
26.Please go straight ahead, and then turn right.
请往前直走，然后向右转。
在外旅游，问路在所难免，不仅要学会用英语问路，还要学会用英语为游客指路。最简单的问路句子是“Excuse me, where is the bus station/town center?”，回答要根据情况而定。如：go/walk straight ahead(直走)、turn right（向右拐）、turn left(向左拐)、on the right(在右手)、on the left（在左手）、traffic lights(交通灯)。在美国， 复杂的交通灯叫satellite，好像卫星系统一样。对了，问路或指路时都千万别忘了加上please。
27.You can"t miss it.
就是了(你不会错过的)。
动词 miss 用法较多，句中的意思是“未见到；未听到；未觉察”请看下面的句子：
(1)A: Excuseme, how can I get to Wes Coast Hotel?
请问西海岸大酒店怎么走?
B: Please just walk ahead about one hundred meters, then turn left. You can"t miss it.
请往前走大约100米，然后向左拐，就看到了。
(2)A: Excuse me, where is the office block?
请问办公大楼在哪儿?
B: The tallest building over there. You can"t miss it.
那边最高的那幢楼就是。
