今日份预告:tuition, afford, payment及部分倒装句第六种情况。
Tuition:
n.
1. teaching, especially in small groups〔尤指对小组的〕教学,讲课
e.g. I had to have extra tuitionin maths.
我不得不上数学补习课。
2. tuition fees the money you pay for being taught 学费
e.g. When I started college, tuitionwas $350 a quarter.
我开始念大学的时候,学费是每学季350美元。
Afford:
v.
1. to have enough money to buy or pay for something 买得起(usually negative)
l afford (to do) something
e.g. We can’t affordto go on vacation this year.
今年我们没钱去度假。
2. to have enough time to do something 抽得出〔时间〕
e.g. Dad can’t affordany more time off work.
爸爸没有办法再请假了。
3. if you cannot afford to do something, you must not do it because it could cause serious problems for you承担得起
l afford to do something
e.g. We can’t affordto wait any longer or we’ll miss the plane.
我们再也不能等下去了,否则会赶不上飞机的。
Payment:
1. an amount of money that has been or must be paid 已[应]支付的金额
e.g. You can make a paymentin any bank.
你可以在任何一家银行付款。
2. the act of paying for something支付,付款
l payment of
e.g. There are severe penalties for late paymentof taxes.
迟缴税款要支付高额罚金。
l payment in
e.g. Most hotels here accept paymentin dollars.
这里的大多数酒店都接受美元付款
l in payment for something (=in order to pay for something)购买某物
e.g. cheques received in paymentfor goods supplied
收到的支付货款的支票
l on payment of something (=when an amount has been paid) 某款项已付
e.g. Any item can be reserved on paymentof a deposit.
支付订金就可以预订任何物品。
今天要提到的是代词so,neither,nor,no more置于句首时,句子需部分倒装。
e.g. I can’t speak English,nor can he.
He had no money, nor didhe know anyone he could borrow from.
——Meal price has gone up.
——So hastuition.
这种倒装可以让读者更好地感受到说话人的语气。
此外,要注意的是:这种结构也可以用来表达对别人讲的情况有同感,此时不用到装。
比如:A: It’s a very nice day.
B: So it is. (可不是嘛!)
