Today, I will talk about the difference between saying"what do you do"and "what can you do"

"What do you do"means what is your profession, or, what do you do for a living
"What do you do"意思是你的职业是什么，或者你以什么为生?
In conversation, it almost always follows "What"s your name?What did you do?"
在谈话中，它几乎总是跟在“what"s you name？What did you do?”之后
"What do you do?" means what kind of work do you do, or what kind of career do you have.
"What do you do?"的意思是你做什么样的工作，或者你从事什么样的职业
What are you doing puts the question in time
What are you doing把问题及时提出来
What were you doing is in the past
What were you doing意思是你所做的是过去的事
"what are you doing"is in the present,
“what are you doing”是现在的意思
and"what will you be doing"is in the future
而“what will you be doing”是将来的意思
The answer is more general, and can mean many more things than what do you do
答案更为普遍，比what do you do意味着更多的事情
“What do you do ”is about your profession, “what are you doing” is about your life in general
“What do you do ”是关于你的职业，“what are you doing”是关于你的生活的
“How are you doing”is about your well-being, and your health
“How are you doing”是关于你的幸福和健康的
Usually, when we are in a position to serve someone, we can use the phrase“What can I do for you?”
通常，当我们处于为某人服务的位置时，我们可以使用这个短语“What can I do for you?”
“What can I do for you”means what would you like
“what can I do for you”的意思是你想要什么
“What can you do”means what are you able to do for me
“what can you do”的意思是你能为我做些什么
If someone asks you“what you can do？”, they want to know what you are able to do for them

You could ask someone, "what can you do about this? Can it change?"

Please note: the expressions "what can you do" and "what do you do" mean different things

"What can you do" is also a rhetorical expression about the hopelessness of a situation

It is a very polite way of saying hello

But,you would very rarely hear it nowadays
